Let me ask you something.
How many hours did you spend at dental school learning how to prep a crown? How to handle a tricky extraction? How to spot the early signs of oral cancer?
Hundreds, probably.
Now how many hours did you spend learning how to buy a dental practice? How to raise finance, read a valuation, or structure your accounts so you're not handing half your income straight to HMRC?
I'll wager the answer is somewhere between zero and "there was one afternoon session that nobody took seriously."
That's not a dig at dental schools. It's just the reality. You were trained to be a clinician, not a business owner. And for a long time, that was fine, you could float along as an associate, earn decent money, and leave the headaches to someone else.
But at some point, most dentists start to wonder: should I own a practice?
And that's when the myths kick in.
"You need to be rich to buy a practice." (You don't.)
"Banks don't lend to dentists anymore." (They do - you just need to know how to talk to them.)
"Just buy something profitable and you'll be fine." (If only it were that simple.)
